Florida A&M University officially inaugurated newly elected Student Government Association President and Vice President Zayla Bryant and Kennedy Williams, bringing in the new group of student leaders for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The inauguration is the last of many events that took place during SGA Week, a week of events allowing the student body to meet the SGA body. Know Your Rights: Campus Edition was the first event to take place, with a variety of events to follow in the days after, including a Sunday service, an open house event, an open mic night and a dunk or dodge.

Bryant and Williams made history securing 56% the vote, becoming the first all-female duo to hold FAMU’s top leadership positions. In an article written by Ashley Bryant on The FAMUAN, Bryant and Williams ran on a platform centered on inclusivity, innovation and student empowerment, which platforms they continue to uphold as they begin their tenure.

“It’s a very indescribable feeling to see this whole moment come to pass—my four years are a culmination of this very moment right here—it’s become something bigger than I ever thought possible,” Bryant said. “I’m just really excited to really embrace this year for all that it is and take this time to be as impactful as possible before I cross the stage in spring.”

The inauguration recognized student leaders elected across all three branches such as Nikiyah Brown, Harmony Person, Jaylen Butler and Justin Thomas.

“To see the excellence of this administration and to see the passion that our students have for soaring … the passion that they have for uplifting the vision of this university is inspirational,” President Marva Johnson said. “I’m excited to see their leadership and I’m looking forward to working with them.”

Along with President Johnson, other notable guests in attendance included FAMU’s Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Hudson, and immediate past Board of Trustees Chair Kristin Harper.

“I love seeing students exercise their leadership gifts and seeing who they can become on the highest of seven hills,” Harper said. “At FAMU, if you have a vision, you can make it happen.”

Bryant, Williams and the rest of the elected members of SGA have been officially sworn in to take office for the 2025-2026 academic year.

“I am not blind to the challenges that present themselves, nor the challenges that will come … I will stand to meet each and every one of them,” Bryant said. “Yes, we have the challenge to do things differently than we’re used to—but in the midst of uncertainty, that is where the magic happens, that is where growth lives, that is where the future of FAMU’s story is going.”
